Lawmaker: The Sports Facilities Commission Is Biased

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A top anti-Vikings stadium lawmaker made harsh allegations Monday about the Sports Facilities Commission using bias information supplied by the Vikings.

Sen. John Marty wrote in a letter that the commission is more worried about getting a new Vikings stadium than it is about protecting tax payers.

Marty leads a sizable number of Democrats and Republicans who say Minnesota has no business giving any public money to a new stadium. He also says the Sports Facilities Commission is using biased information from the Vikings instead of hiring an independent analyst.

Using such information, he says, is misleading to the public and lawmakers.

"The Vikings are asking for the largest taxpayer subsidy of any sports team in history," he said.

Marty's letter is an example of the rising tensions at the Capitol over the controversial Vikings stadium issue – one that might be voted upon soon.

The Sports Facilities Commission did not immediately respond to WCCO-TV's calls.
