Son Of Packers’ Coordinator Found In Wis. River

OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — Police say they have recovered the son of Green Bay Packers’ offensive coordinator Joe Philbin from an icy Wisconsin River.

Twenty-one-year-old Michael Philbin disappeared early Sunday morning while out with friends in Oshkosh.

Divers recovered his body from the Fox River near the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh campus on Monday.

An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday. Results are not expected for at least a month. Oshkosh police Chief Scott Greuel said Tuesday they suspect no foul play.

He said they delayed releasing Philbin’s identity out of respect for his family’s privacy and because there’s no threat to public safety. Greuel declined to release any details of how Philbin became separated from his friends, saying the investigating continues.

  • Wondering

What is it with college age guys partying and then ending up in the river the past few years? Freaky isn’t it?

    • Bruce Wayne

it has been happening a lot, reminds me of a case of (and I’m not joking here) The Smiley Face Killer, look it up, it’s been going on all over the states

      • A mom

        I agree.
I too immediately thought of the “SMILEY FACE GANG” :-( that targets mostly college age men,EVERYWHERE, BUT primarily in the Midwest. :-(
Sadly MN & WI have numerous unsolved deaths, that can easily & eerily be connected to that (sick) gang. :-(
I think the FBI etc should really investigate the gang & not jump to conclusions with this death!
God Bless Michael and his family.

  • Be Real

Why was the release delay? Out of respect for a public figure? How about the same consideration for all of those who die in Wisconsin? Even the black ones and the poor ones?
