Man Charged For Dragging Friend With Car

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 24-year-old man has been charged with criminal vehicular operation and driving while drunk after he allegedly dragged his friend with his car.

Police say Kyle Kissinger was trying to stop Jason Lee Schultz, of West St. Paul, him from driving while drunk and reached inside Schultz's car to try and take the keys from the ignition.

Schultz allegedly hit the gas and dragged Kissinger for several blocks as he hung out of the driver's side window. Kissinger suffered serious head trauma, among other injuries.

Kissinger is a 24-year-old Army veteran from St. Paul. He is in fair condition.

Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom said, "It is a tragedy to see a person trying to do the right thing and prevent his friend from driving while intoxicated injured so severely."

Schultz's first court appearance is set for Monday, Feb. 27.
