EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WCCO) — One person is dead after a vehicle lost control and struck a semi near Eau Claire, Wis. Thursday afternoon, according to authorities.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, at 4:40 p.m., a vehicle lost control traveling westbound on Interstate 94 over the Chippewa River. The vehicle then traveled through the median and was struck by an eastbound semi unit.

Upon collision, the semi overturned and struck the guardrail and bridge, coming to a rest blocking both lanes of traffic.

The driver of the westbound vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene.
