Minn. Snow Sculptors Take 3rd In China

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- We have an update on the snow sculptors we featured in last week's Finding Minnesota.

The Minnesota Big Snow team took third place this weekend at the International Snow and Ice Festival in Harbin, China.

Matt Seeley, who is blogging about the Minnesota Big Snow team's trip, said it's quite cold there. It's been 10 degrees below zero, with a wind chill that makes it feel more like 25 degrees below. The chilly temperatures made the snow hard and difficult to carve. However, those conditions were great for detail work.

The team competed with 15 teams from around the world. The top prize money is $500, but it cost each of the guys about $3,000 in airfare just to get to China.

The Big Snow team's trip was covered in a recent Finding Minnesota. They've competed in snow sculpting contests at the St. Paul Winter Carnival and others around the nation.
