AP Source: Ex-Tigers Reliever Zumaya Joins Twins
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Oft-injured relief pitcher Joel Zumaya and the Minnesota Twins have agreed on a one-year contract.
A person with direct knowledge of the deal confirmed the agreement Monday to The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team had yet to officially announce the deal. Zumaya's decision to join the Twins was first reported by MLB.com.
The 27-year-old right-hander was a dominant, hard-throwing setup man for the division rival Detroit Tigers as a rookie in 2006, but he hasn't pitched an entire season since then because of a series of arm problems. The latest was a broken elbow he suffered while throwing a pitch at Target Field in June 2010, and he hasn't pitched since.
