MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota’s Joe Coleman has been named the Big Ten’s freshman of the week.
The award was announced by the conference on Monday.
Coleman moved into the starting lineup for the Gophers three games ago. He totaled 45 points and 14 rebounds in that stretch, helping Minnesota win twice, on the road at Indiana and Penn State.
The 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Hopkins High School made four free throws in the final minute for the Gophers in their 77-74 win at Indiana on Thursday. Then he had a career-high 23 points on Sunday in the 80-66 win at Penn State.
Coleman is the first Gophers player to win the Big Ten men’s basketball freshman of the week award.
