Volunteers Get Active On Martin Luther King Day

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — From serving the hungry to building homes, volunteers in Minnesota are getting active in the community on Monday to honor the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The InterCorps Council of Minnesota organized 17 service projects across the state on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. So far, 160 people have signed up to volunteer.

Members of AmeriCorps and others in the community have signed up to help out at Habitat for Humanity in Woodbury and Brooklyn Park, work with Second Harvest Heartland, or help out at Arc's Value Village Thrift Store in St. Paul.

AmeriCorps is a national volunteer program with about 1,600 participants in Minnesota.
