ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Wild will likely be without captain Mikko Koivu for at least two weeks, if not more.
Coach Mike Yeo said Monday that Koivu has an upper-body injury, but declined to specify. Koivu appeared to hurt his left shoulder in Saturday’s game at St. Louis. Yeo said Koivu’s status will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis, and the coach added that he’ll probably be out until after the All-Star break.
Koivu was recently picked to play in his first All-Star game. He says it’s too soon to tell whether he’ll have to miss it.
Yeo says Koivu is impossible to replace so he doesn’t want his players to try. He says he’s more concerned about others filling his leadership role than the loss of more offense.
