Truck Partially Submerged In Ice, Passenger Follows

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (WCCO) -- A man who was in a rented pickup truck fell through the ice of Big Cormorant Lake near Detroit Lakes after the truck became partially submerged.

According to the Becker County Sheriff's Office, Mark Alan Brossart, of Moorhead, contacted authorities after the front end of the truck fell through the ice Monday evening.

The dispatcher told Brossart and his passenger to walk away from the vehicle back to the access road near Highway 5.

While emergency crews were on the scene documenting the accident, the passenger -- Jason James Cihak -- went back out toward the truck.

The sheriff's office said Cihak broke through the ice and was submerged up to his chest in an area about 8 to 12 feet deep.

An ambulance crew treated Cihak at the scene.

The sheriff's office said the incident is a reminder that driving motor vehicles onto area lakes is still not advised.
