MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Minnesota Twins announced Tuesday that they have avoided arbitration and reached agreements on contracts with pitchers Glen Perkins and Francisco Liriano.

Both agreed to 1-year deals with the Twins on Tuesday. Liriano will make $5.5 million this season and Perkins will earn $1.55 million.

The only Twins player left that’s not signed an eligible for arbitration is infielder Alexi Casilla, who filed for arbitration at $1.75 million. The Twins have offered him $1.065 million. He made $865,000 last season.

  • It’s just baseball

At $5.500,000 Liriano is grossly overpaid. Drop off the first 5 and he would still earn more than he’s worth as a pitcher.

  • Deep Thinker

I’m sure the Twins will release a statement on how successful they are in retaining these two slugs. Get ready for more than one 90 loss season.

Liriano shows flashes of brilliance through how ever many years of sub par pitching. Perkins? I’d pay that much for him. He too has shown flashes of brilliance… yet has had some less than brilliant innings.

I’m love baseball more than football, yet am less apt to tell the twins how to do it than I am the vikings.

Here’s to wishful thinking in 2012!

“Twins send Spring Training invites to Sandy Koufax, Jim Kaat and Dave Dravecky in the hopes of shoring up starting rotation….or at least the bullpen.”
