Man Charged With Assaulting Infant, Mother

ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- A 54-year-old man has been charged after police say he assaulted a 7-month-old infant boy and the child's mother.

The Ramsey County Attorney's Office charged Tin Kyaw with one count each of terroristic threats, third-degree assault and malicious punishment of a child.

Kyaw was also given a Do Not Contact order and is being held on $50,000 bail.

According to a criminal complaint, a pest control worker on a routine call was sent to a home on Jan. 24 and met with a crying and injured woman holding her infant son. Once inside, the worker noticed blood on the face of Kyaw, who told him everything was fine and he should leave.

On his way out, the worker caught the eye of the woman who whispered to him, "Help me."

The worker then called 911.

St. Paul Police arrived on scene and arrested Kyaw. The woman cried out for them to look at her baby who had marks on his head and face. She told them Kyaw strangled her and then stepped on the baby's head, threatening to crush it if she did not comply with his requests.

"This case is particularly disturbing given the physical assault of an infant child," said Ramsey County Attorney John Choi. "This cannot be tolerated in our community, and we will pursue this case vigorously."
