St. Paul Man Charged In DWI Crash That Injured Boy

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 61-year-old man has been charged with allegedly hitting a 6-year-old child with a car at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

On Dec. 16, 2011, authorities arrested Tommy Rodriguez of St. Paul for criminal vehicular operation. Airport Spokesperson Pat Hogan said the incident happened at about 6 p.m. in the green short-term parking ramp at the airport.

Authorities said they smelled alcohol on Rodriguez's breath at the time of the incident. Authorities say his blood alcohol concentration would have been at least .08 percent at the time of the crash.

There were no other injuries in the incident. The child's name has not yet been released, and authorities said the child's injuries appear to be non-life threatening.

Hogan said the child was on his way to welcome his father home from a military deployment to Iraq.

Rodriquez faces a one felony count of criminal vehicular operation and one gross misdemeanor count of third-degree driving while impaired. If convicted, Rodriquez could face up to 4 years in prison.
