Best In State Eastview Boys Have High Hoop Dreams

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Eastview's boys basketball team is ranked number one in the state, and they may very well have the best senior player, too.

What makes them so good? They are focused on team play.

Eastview basketball coach Mark Gerber said each player knows the importance of his role.

"The biggest thing that separates them is the leadership they all have – their willingness to step back and take a role that is more for a team atmosphere," he said.

At the heart of the team is Joey King, who may be the favorite for Mr. Basketball. Bound for Drake University, he's a player that can do it all.

In his own words, King is a "pretty versatile player." He says he can handle the ball and play on the post and the wing.

"I do whatever needs to be done on the team so we can win," he said.

King is a coach's dream and an opponent's nightmare. Gerber said King is a natural leader.

And with King leading the way, Eastview has started to dream big.

"We're really looking to win a state championship, our section and our conference," King said. "Our goals are set really high this year."
