1 Dead After Bloomington Townhouse Fire

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (WCCO) -- A woman was found dead in a townhouse after an overnight fire in Bloomington.

The fire started shortly before 11 p.m. Monday at the home on Bloomington Avenue South.

Investigators said it started in the basement and was contained to that spot in the unit.

Firefighters kept it from spreading, but there is some smoke and heat damage to the first floor.

Bloomington Fire Chief Ulie Seal said the woman was found dead inside after the fire was knocked out.

"They had a lot of heavy smoke coming out the front, and fire coming out the basement in the rear. There's an escape size window in the rear that had lots of fire coming out of it," said Seal.

Investigators are looking for clues as to what caused the fire.

The victim has not yet been identified and her age isn't known.

Nearby units were evacuated for a time, but everyone was allowed to return home after the fire was put out.
