Ex-Cons Rally At Capitol For 2nd Chances

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Ex-offenders, their families and those who want justice reform are planning to rally at the state Capitol to support second chances for people with criminal pasts.

Tuesday's rally is led by the Minnesota Second Chance Coalition, which works to raise awareness about barriers people with criminal records face.

The coalition says it will focus on three things in 2012: expanding work opportunities for people with criminal records, limiting access to juvenile records, and restoring voting rights for people with felony convictions who are on probation or parole.

The coalition also plans to announce an initiative called "Think First" which is designed to raise awareness about long term impacts of juvenile criminal records.

Several law enforcement officials will speak at the 9 a.m. news conference and 10 a.m. rally.
