Charges: Mpls. Man Punched Elderly Man, Stole His Kindle

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A 20-year-old Minneapolis man followed a 73-year-old man outside a library, punched him and took his Kindle, according to authorities.

According to the criminal complaint, an elderly Richfield man visited the Hennepin County Library on Jan. 25, 2011. He noticed a man, identified a Taimak Jamal Wilson, who he felt was somewhat stalking him, but he did not think much of it at the time.

When he left the library, the victim was confronted by Wilson, who asked for money. When the victim declined, Wilson reached over and tried to grab the Kindle. After a struggle, the victim fell to the ground and Wilson punched him in the head several times, the complaint said. Wilson then took the Kindle.

Richfield Police investigated the robbery and discovered the Kindle was pawned at a Robbinsdale Pawn America for $76.50.

Wilson was charged with simple robbery. If convicted, Wilson could face a potential maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and/or a $20,000 fine.

Yep and old man beating, bet he learned that at home.

  • Tom

Give him 10 years. He will never amount to anything anyway. This is why I left Mpls. and would NEVER move back.

    • John Frykman

Did you move to another planet? These events, unfortunately, happen everywhere. They are not more likely to happen here than anywhere else–probably less so. At least they caught the guy and he will be off the streets for a while, living off the taxpayers in a different location. Perhaps a fellow inmate may find him attractive? One can hope.

Why was he only charged with simple robbery and not assault, too?

  • Tim

This is exactly why I purchased a handgun and will take a carry/conceal course . Too many slugs in this society who just do what they want to, and a sorry a**ed judicial system that slaps them on the hand. Give the sorry SOB’s a case of lead poisioning and that might teach them a lesson, maybe one they can take to the grave.

OK, so the local editors are not happy with my post coming quick. My point is this type of behavior is young kids acting as hooligans and parents are not involved in making it unacceptable from a very young age, If you need money, get a job. Kids need this input from the family from an early age, And parents need to reinforce this on an ongoing basis, So I feel parental involvement is critical and a large part of what is needed to stop it. Locking up 20 year olds is not a solution.

Another reason to pack a gun.

When the Democrats take the man’s Kindle and give it to Wilson, it’s perfectly legal and they applaud themselves for being “fair” and “taking care of those who need a hand ‘up’.”

    • Malthus

Redistributing the wealth. If you’re against it, you are selfish and immoral.

      • Sandy

How about if these kids get jobs and stop redistributing the wealth with their brutality and entitlement because of the color of their skin?

  • Rocky

Yup, arm yourself…..He will be out walking the streets in 1 week if not sooner, Fined??? are u kidding, he ain’t got no money, why do ya think he is out robbing ppl?

  • DEEP

A great reason to know how to knock a person out with one punch. It’s good to know how to break a mans leg with a quick stomp to the side of the knee. Carrying a gun or a knife is great if your a trained expert. But a knife or gun is dangerous to all in the hands of the untrained. Go learn some self defense! You will walk so confidently that you’ll never have to use it!

self defense good idea even for a 72 year old person, but I think the 20 year old has the edge on him , but so much more safer..and the element of surprise, the olf man could have protected him self more so. and learned how to be more aware of his surroundings as well .. as we;; as I, learn self defense :) thumbs’ up

Another product of the liberal wellfare mentality. The real shame is that this loser probably has kids with multiple “baby mamas”.
