Charges: Mpls. Man Punched Elderly Man, Stole His Kindle

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 20-year-old Minneapolis man followed a 73-year-old man outside a library, punched him and took his Kindle, according to authorities.

According to the criminal complaint, an elderly Richfield man visited the Hennepin County Library on Jan. 25, 2011. He noticed a man, identified a Taimak Jamal Wilson, who he felt was somewhat stalking him, but he did not think much of it at the time.

When he left the library, the victim was confronted by Wilson, who asked for money. When the victim declined, Wilson reached over and tried to grab the Kindle. After a struggle, the victim fell to the ground and Wilson punched him in the head several times, the complaint said. Wilson then took the Kindle.

Richfield Police investigated the robbery and discovered the Kindle was pawned at a Robbinsdale Pawn America for $76.50.

Wilson was charged with simple robbery. If convicted, Wilson could face a potential maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and/or a $20,000 fine.
