Man Gets 90 Days In Fatal Hit-And-Run
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A man was sentenced to 90 days in the Hennepin County Workhouse after pleading guilty to a fatal hit-and-run crash.
Mark Lindgren, of Bloomington, Minn., modified his plea to guilty in the crash that killed 85-year-old Dorothy Hanson last October. He was sentenced on Friday.
The crash happened at 10th Avenue South and East Old Shakopee Road.
Hanson was walking home after having dinner with her husband, who lives in a nearby care facility, when she was struck by Lindgren's vehicle. She was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center where she later died.
Witnesses to the crash said the driver involved didn't slow down, swerve or brake when they hit Hanson.
Lindgren turned himself in to authorities a few days later, and his attorney made arrangements to have the truck turned over to investigators.
Police obtained a warrant to search Lindgren's apartment and found a one-page document that listed Lindgren's timeline for the date of the accident. It said Lindgren had one drink on the night of the crash. The document said Lindgren did not notice the headlight and damage to his vehicle until he got home. The document also said, "Assumed it was a deer or bird."
Police say Lindgren has been arrested for drunk driving in the past — once in 1992 and another time in 2003 in Indiana.
In addition to the time incarcerated, Lindgren will be on probation for three years and must abide by a number of conditions.
