Rybak: Big Announcement Monday On Vikes Stadium

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak says there is going to be a major announcement Monday concerning a Vikings stadium.

Rybak told WCCO Radio that the announcement concerns the site next to the Metrodome.

WCCO’s Esme Murphy Interviews R.T. Rybak

It’s the property just east of where the Metrodome currently sits, near 11th Avenue and 6th Street.

Building there would mean the team could continue playing at the Metrodome, rather than losing seating by playing at TCF Bank Stadium.

But there are some concerns about the property, because it’s home to numerous telecommunications companies.

Rybak also said the Minneapolis City Council isn’t fully on board with the new plan, but it’s getting close.

“I think people are seeing every day a little more progress, and I believe in this,” Rybak said. “I believe in the Vikings, but I think we have to do it in a way that’s responsible.”

First, I thought that St. Paul would have to bend over, but now it looks like Rybak will make Mpls. bend over. He and Zigi must be really good friends by now.

Brilliant. Lets build a new dome, right next to the old dome.

  • Ziggy Town

In the agreement, Ziggy will be allowed to purchase the metrodome for $1 and sell it ack to the city for 14 billion followed by a free lease. This way Ziggy gets to make an equivalent profit to that of ziggytown with the hassle and risk. Ryback is on your side. So is Ziggy Enterprsize.

I’ll never go to a Vikings game so I shouldn’t have a vote. And of course nobody has asked for my oppinion. But a better question is why don’t some of us go to the Viking games. My answer is simple. It’s not fun anymore. There isn’t enough parking, we have to park several blocks away but still get charged plenty. Then we have to walk several blocks to the stadium. Pay a lot of money for a ticket, still more money for beer, hot dogs, fries, and a coke. No our hands are full and we need to walk through shoulder to shoulder people several more yards to get to our seats. Now we need to get between the people seating in the row of seats and the back of the row of people setting in front of our seats. Someone always get a cold drink dumped on them. The people setting ahead of you wont stay seated and block the view so I only see about half the game. As I walk the 4 or 5 blocks back to my car. I keep asking myself why…? Why do I do this to myself.?? I could stay home and watc the entior game on T.V. with replays. I don’t get food or drinks dumped on me. One body stands up infront of me. The rest room is about 35 or 40 feet away and no one is bumping into you or spilling drinks one you. There is no need for parking money. You don’t have to yell to talk to others. The food is only 20 feet away. And you controll the volume anyway you like it. So, that’s way a don’t go to the games anymore. It’s a lot less stressful to just stay home and see the the game.

Don’t worry, someone is out there to give you a shoulder to cry on and give you a hug

    • Ash

Which is why EVERY GAME should be PAY PER VIEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! $100 a TV. That will pay for your GD stadium!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • sue

plus you can pause, do something and then start again, not to speak of taping the whole thing and then fast forwarding thru the commercials, just make sure you do not look at or answer your phone.

    • davidstorm

Totally agree. You forgot to add you can bearley hear the refs and it’s really hard to see all the action like where the ball is and such. Everythiong else I’m right there with ya.

    Arden Hills was perfect…but the Mpls Politician’s win again…Oh well…big surprize …NOT !!!

  • the real Mdewaketon

Why would this be a surprise to anyone. Everyone knows in this state that Minneapolis has all the politicale clout.

  • rodney

Rybak is sure hell bent on NOT listening to his constituents, isn’t he?

We want a referendum, Mayor … that’s r-e-f-e-r-e-n-d-u-m – can you understand that?

We don’t want to pay for the loser Vikings in any way, shape or form. Even if Zippy pays for all of it plenty of us are sick of it and don’t care if he leaves.

You can build a billion dollar casino (not with taxpayer money of course) or you can give away golden ponies for prizes and it still isn’t going to increase gambling revenues in MN. There is only so much money available for people to spend so no matter how you want to bend and shape it, the cost of a stadium is still going to come out of our pockets. AND WE DON”T WANT THAT – GET IT?

Substitute the word “WE” in your nonsensical rant with the word “I” because that was YOUR opinion, and I certainly do not share it.

  • Kevin

They are going to let the citizines of MN vote either for or against the stadium! GOD I LOVE THIS COUNTRY! USA! USA! USA! I mean it will be our money that will build this millionares playground….so we should have a say…..right?

  • Gmac

Thankyou once again Minneapolis for being a city of CHUMPS. One more reason not to live there.

    • Kalpana

Mark,Thank you for the update on the Chew in the 18-49, etc. What is mind nogglibg to me is how the ratings can differ from 24 local metered markets, to the 56 markets that you showed last week, to the final (I guess) Nielsen’s that I see reported in Soap Opera Network(SON) usually on Thursday evening. I looked at AMC’s 18-49 ratings for each week of October 2010, reported by SON and they were .9,.9,.8,.8. much lowered than the 24 metered markets although in a recent interview, Nelson Branco said that is to be expected. The reason why many of us GH fans are so interested is that ABC has said GH is in a horse race between The Chew, and The Revolution to see which show gets replaced by Katie Couric. Many do not believe ABC is telling the truth and that Gh is not in a horse race, ABC is just saying that to keep up viewership, who knows but that is why we are so interested to have numbers we can compare GH with and the only GH numbers we have are the ones that SON reports. SON does not get ratings for the Chew, I think unless you can supply them. Thanks again. I hope you can understand why soap fans are so grateful for your Chew numbers, we just need to be able to compare them to GH and OLTL for that matter because OLTL has been great lately.

I really hope the dome jacks the price of rent for each game played without a lease.

I also have an idea for a business but want tax money to get it started. How do I get an audience with our great leaders like Wilf has gotten?

    • the word is

Just ask jackactionhero – he knows everything there is to know. He drinks a lot of beer to kill all his slow brain cells so only the fast, hard thinking ones remain. Very smart. Very smart indeed.

      Ahhhhhh … our hero!!!

    • jackactionhero

Your business plan probably isn’t viable. That’s how they mostly fail.

  • Don Bodine

    rybak is a idiot

  • Sarah

    Maybe Donald Trump will invest.

Oh wait, he only invests in viable properties. Not giant scams that rip off the tax payers.

  • Double G

The real solution is easy, have the various Indian tribes donate the states portion and they get to keep their monoploy on gambling. If they don’t have the state built a casino in the Cities and another one up north. The state gets the revenue and the taxpayers are off the hook and maybe Zigi will actually invest in some players!
