ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Department of Public Safety is reminding motorists to designate a sober driver before watching the Super Bowl.

The DPS Office of Traffic Safety has kept data on alcohol-related incidents during Super Bowl Sunday. From 2006 through 2010, there were nine traffic deaths on the day of the big game. Four were alcohol related. In addition, 1,201 motorists were arrested for drunken driving.

State Patrol Lt. Eric Roeske says motorists should plan for a sober ride, and always buckle up.

DPS says football fans could pick a sober driver before the game, use public transportation or a taxi, or stay at the celebration. Anyone who sees impaired driving is asked to call 911, and should be prepared to give operators a location and license plate number.

If you’re going to drink and drive, try and kill only yourself. If drunk drivers did, in fact, kill only themselves, then one could see something positive in drunk driving.

Please, take care of yourself. A recent joint study conducted by the
Department of Health and the Department of Motor Vehicles indicates
that 23% of traffic accidents are alcohol related. This means that the
remaining 77% are caused by aholes who drink bottled water,
starbucks, soda, juice, energy drinks, and junk like that. Therefore,
beware of those who do not drink alcohol. They cause three times as
many accidents. This message is sent to you by someone who worries
    about your safety.

no matter how things turn out.”

The other 77% are not the $$$$$ generators like the 23%.
