MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The mild weather has ruined another winter event.
The 40th annual Mora Vasaloppet — which was scheduled to take place this weekend — has been cancelled.
“With the warm temperatures and all that we had moved it to the lake [Knife Lake], and now that isn’t going to work either, so we did have to cancel,” said Laurel Robertson, the coordinator of the popular cross-country ski race.
Robertson said more than 2,000 skiers were expected to take part, some from as far away as Sweden.

It’s only the fifth time the Vasaloppet’s been cancelled due to mild weather.
Skiers who registered for the race will receive a certificate providing a 25 percent discount off the 2013 registration.
