Man Gets 90 Months For Transporting Stolen Vehicles

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A man a federal judge describes as "the epitome of a white-collar career offender" has been sentenced to more than 7 years in prison for transporting stolen vehicles from Wisconsin to Minnesota.

Sixty-one-year-old Gale Rachuy, of Duluth, pleaded guilty to obtaining vehicles in northwestern Wisconsin through worthless checks, then taking them to Minnesota.

Federal Judge William Conley in Wisconsin's western district, said he departed from sentencing guidelines of up to 46 months in sentencing Rachuy to 90 months in prison in order to "protect the public from a financial predator." The judge noted Rachuy's extensive criminal history, which includes 28 convictions, mostly for fraud.

His sentence also includes three years of supervised release following the prison term.
