Man Arrested After Shooting Himself In Domestic Dispute

LAKE CITY, Minn. (WCCO) – A man was arrested in Lake City on Thursday after a domestic dispute led to the man shooting himself in the shoulder, according to police.

The incident happened at about 2:16 p.m. on the 1800 block of S. Highway 61. Lake City officers responded to the scene after a woman reported that her boyfriend at the residence had told her to leave, then fired a weapon in the home.

The woman thought the gunshot hit the floor, police said.

Officers from Lake City, Wabasha, Goodhue County and the Minnesota State Patrol followed by setting up a containment area around the home and evacuating residents. Authorities made contact with the suspect, who agreed to come out of the home.

When he came out, he had a gunshot wound to his right shoulder that is believed to be self-inflicted, authorities said. The man's name has not yet been released as the incident is still under investigation.

The Lake City community was shocked and saddened when one of its own officers, Shawn Schneider, was shot and killed by a man on Dec. 19, 2011, while responding to a domestic dispute. That man eventually took his own life.
