$1K Reward Offered For Proof Of MN Voter Impersonation

ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Civil Liberties Union (ACLU-MN) is offering as a reward for anyone who can show proof of a voter impersonation case that happened in the past 10 years. And the MCLU brought the money with them: $1,000 in $1 bills.

The MCLU says the Photo ID bill moving through the legislature won't fix any problem because there isn't one.

Voter ID supporters strongly disagree.

"Minnesotans, by and large, don't have full faith and confidence in our election system. They want voter ID," said Dan McGrath of the Minnesota Majority. "(The ACLU has) a really steep hill to climb if they want convince people to turn that around and stop this amendment."

However, the MCLU says voter fraud in Minnesota is very rare.

"Year after year, people from outside the state say, 'gosh, these Minnesota elections are clean and they are good and they are accurate,'" said Chuck Samuelson with the ACLU-MN.

It was a dramatic, and expensive, way to make a serious point.

The MCLU says Voter ID will not only not stop fraud, but it will inconvenience hundreds of thousands of people and actually keep eligible voters from casting ballots.
