ORROCK TOWNSHIP (WCCO) – A 40-year-old Big Lake man is dead after he drove his SUV into the side of a house in Orrock Township Saturday, according to the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Joel Brott says homeowners Lionel and Janene Callaies were in their house, located on the 16800 block of 242nd Avenue, watching TV just after 7 p.m. when they heard a crash on the other side of the house. They called 911 when they discovered what happened and attempted to render aid.
According to Brott, deputies arrived minutes later and found the sole occupant of the vehicle, Ray Kopponen, unresponsive. Efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
No one else was injured.
Kopponen’s cause of death and the accident remain under investigation.
