Williams To Participate In 2012 Slam Dunk Contest

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Derrick Williams will be putting his dunk to a contest.

He was selected to play in the 2012 BBVA Rising Stars Challenge next weekend, where he’ll represent the Wolves in the Sprite Slam Dunk contest.

Williams will be dunking against Chase Budinger of the Houston Rockets, Paul George from Indiana and Iman Shumpert of the Knicks.

The dunk contest will be held in Orlando, Fla. and for the first time, the winner will be chosen by fan vote — including those who vote on Twitter.

Williams was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft and as averaged 7.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 18.6 minutes in 30 games and four starts.

Rising star? How about complete disappointment. Hardly plays and when he does misses shots and turns ball over. Can you believe what a joke the slam dunk contest has become. Used to be the stars, now it is four players that don’t matter.
