Wis. DOJ's Training Director Shoots His Hand

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (AP) — The training director for the Wisconsin Department of Justice is recovering from an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound to the hand.

DOJ spokeswoman Dana Brueck says Tony Barthuly was cleaning his personal handgun Wednesday night at his home in Fond du Lac when it discharged.

Barthuly was taken to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, then transferred to Appleton Medical Center and was eventually discharged. Brueck says Barthuly is back at work Friday.

Sheboygan police plan to investigate the accidental shooting because of Barthuly's ties to Fond du Lac police as its former chief.

The 54-year-old Barthuly is the director of DOJ's Training and Standards Bureau.
