State Patrol: 1 Killed After Colliding With Semi

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – One person is dead after a crash in Pope County Monday afternoon, authorities said.

The State Patrol said that incident happened shortly after 3:30 p.m. on the 1000 block Highway 28. The crash appears to have involved three cars, and the highway's surface was wet and icy at the time of the accident.

The name of the person killed has not yet been released.

The State Patrol painted this picture of the crash: A Buick LeSabre spun out on ice while driving west on Highway 28. The LeSabre then careened into on-coming traffic, and a Mack semi truck slammed into it from behind. The LaSabre slid into the south ditch; the Mack slid into the north ditch.

The driver of the LaSabre appears to have been killed. The driver of the Mack, 53-year-old Philip Peterson, suffered no injuries.

The Mack also hit another car, which was unoccupied, and also in the north ditch.

The incident is still under investigation. This story will be updated.
