ALEXANDRIA, Minn. (WCCO) – Another deadly crash was reported near Alexandria on Monday evening, not long after four college students were killed in a head-on crash along Interstate 94 near the city.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened near County Road 82 and Town Hall Road at about 6:15 p.m.

An Oldsmobile van traveling eastbound on County Road 82 was involved in a crash with a Chevrolet Trail Blazer traveling in the opposite direction.

A 13-year-old passenger in the van, Megan Carlson, was pronounced dead of her injuries at a nearby hospital.

Her mother, 40-year-old Kristy Carlson, was driving the vehicle. She was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment.

The driver of the other vehicle, 38-year-old Erin McCoy, was taken to Douglas County Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities believe snowy weather was a contributing factor in the crash.

Teens take more chances then adults. I know I did when I was a teenager. They think the are invinceable. They think nothing can hurt them. And it is so not true. Like every class of young people, I lost my share during my high school and college years. It happens each and every year. Nothing is going to change. It is very sad and my heart goes out to those who have lost loved ones.
