Charges: Man Used Hammer In Blue Earth Attack

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Officials say a brutal home invasion in Blue Earth was carried out by a jealous husband who used a hammer to assault his wife and another man while they were in bed, then attacked his wife's two teenage daughters.

Faribault County officials charged 29-year-old Brian Daniel Freeman of Ceylon with one count of murder and multiple counts of attempted murder for the attack that killed 37-year-old Christopher Michael Fulmer of Blue Earth.

"It certainly appears to be a crime motivated by jealousy," said Blue Earth County Attorney Timmerman. "It looks like Mr. Freeman's wife was spending time with another man and Mr. Freeman went over there and assaulted them with a hammer, ultimately killing the other man and critically injuring everyone else in the house."

Freeman's wife, 38-year-old Candice Marie Freeman, and the two teens suffered life threatening injuries. Timmerman said he's not sure why Freeman attacked the two teenagers.

"We don't know why he would have done that," said Timmerman. "At this point it appears as if the two daughters that were injured were sleeping."

The complaint says Brian Freeman wore a mask and hit his victims multiple times in the head Monday. He told authorities he believed he struck Fulmer, but didn't recall specifics.

After the attack, he called 911 then left.

Freeman's attorney did not immediately return a phone message. Timmerman said Freeman spoke with investigators and gave a confession.
