Assoc. Minister Sentenced To Life For Fatal Shooting

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- An associate minister has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for the shooting death of a North High School staff member.

In late January, Derrick Trevor Griffin, 41, of Minneapolis was convicted of first-degree premeditated murder and first-degree murder while committing a drive-by shooting in the death of Kristopher Miller.

According to authorities, on the evening of May 10, 2011, Miller was at Elk's Club on Plymouth Avenue with Griffin's wife, who was separated from Griffin. When they left the club around 11:15 p.m., she saw a white Cadillac parked across the street and said Griffin was stalking her. Miller walked her to her car, then went to his car and drove home alone.

Just a few minutes later, witnesses heard gunshots outside Miller's home at 1116 Irving Ave. and observed a white Cadillac drive away.

"The toxic combination of jealousy and a handgun left a good man dead and the North High community, and Mr. Miller's family, grief-stricken," said Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman. "We thank the jury for returning this guilty verdict so that a man who has caused so much pain will now spend the rest of his life behind bars."
