Hennepin Co. Commissioner Stenglein Resigning

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- Hennepin County Commissioner Mark Stenglein is resigning to become head of the Minneapolis Downtown Council.

Stenglein, who was first elected to the Board in 1996, will succeed the current Downtown Council President and CEO Sam Grabarski, who is retiring.

The Council recently unveiled an ambitious goal for revitalizing downtown Minneapolis by 2025, including renovation of Nicollet Mall, completing light rail, and building a new Minnesota Vikings stadium.

Stenglein was the fourth and deciding vote on the Hennepin County Board for a new Minnesota Twins stadium at Target Field.

Stenglein was first elected to the Hennepin County Board in 1996, and is currently vice chair.

He represents the 2nd District -- including Plymouth, Medicine Lake, Crystal, Golden Valley, North Minneapolis and Northeast Minneapolis.

He is expected to step down at the end of May.
