MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A lot of local fingers will be crossed Sunday for The Descendants to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards.

Edina native Jim Burke is a producer of that film, which stars George Clooney as a father who tries to reconnect with his kids after his wife is badly hurt in a boating accident.

For his part, Burke thinks he has a pretty good shot.

“The Artist is definitely the front runner,” Burke told Newsradio 830 WCCO’s John Williams Friday. “But we’re right there next to it.”

The Descendants is one of nine films up for Best Picture. The film cost $20 million dollars to make.

“We believed in the picture. We’d believed that people would go out and see it, and we’re really, really happy that people have been,” Burke said of the film. “It causes you to think and look at yourself and your family.”

Williams asked Burke who he’ll thank if he wins.

“I don’t know what I’m going to say.” Burke said with a laugh.
