Spirit Offers Flights From MSP To Chicago, Vegas

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (WCCO) -- Come summer, you should be able to fly new direct lines to Chicago and Las Vegas, as Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport welcomes a new airline service.

Starting early Wednesday night, you should be able to start booking flights on Spirit Air.

The carrier will be offering three daily flights to Chicago O'Hare Airport and another to Las Vegas. Those two destinations should allow travelers to then connect with an additional 20 airports across the country.

"Competition among airlines is good for consumers, and Spirit's unique low-fare business model provides a valuable alternative for cost-conscious travelers," said Dan Boivin, chairman of the Metropolitan Airports Commission. "It is a goal of the MAC to expand choices for the consumer with more options to more destinations while maintaining our commitment to sound environmental stewardship."

The Metropolitan Airports Commission said Spirit is the fourth new carrier to add service at MSP since 2008.

The new airline will be flying out of Terminal 2 or the old Humphrey Terminal, which is right now dominated by hometown Sun Country Airlines.

Spirit Air is known for both rock-bottom prices and also fees on everything from carry-on bags ($50) to boarding passes ($2).

The Twin Cities has the 11th highest airline prices in the nation.
