SUPERIOR, Wis. (AP) — Police in Superior say a call about a hostage situation Monday night turned out to be a prank, but not so funny.
Officers set up a staging area near a home after getting a call about 6:30 p.m. that someone in the house was holding hostages.
However, police soon found out the call was a hoax made from an Internet line. Authorities said the residents of the home were victims in the case.
Police are turning the case over to computer analysts in an attempt to track down the culprits.
