Local Teen Singer A YouTube Sensation

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- There's a Western Wisconsin teen that just may be on the verge of making it big. This musician has the talent and has already established quite a following.

Madilyn Bailey has no problem writing and composing her own music, but this small-town Wisconsin gal is making waves online by post videos of her playing pop songs.

The 19-year-old will pick a new tune on the radio and then, as she puts it, she puts some "Maddy into it".

"When I started posting videos, my first video got to 100 views. I was just begging it to get there," said Bailey.

But the clicks kept on coming as her videos went viral. Fans on her YouTube channel post comments saying her work is amazing, fantastic, brilliant and one and a million.

She's posted 53 videos that have been viewed more than 7 million times. The most popular, at nearly 800,000 views, is a cover of Eminem's "Not Afraid."

"I did that song for my brother, who was deploying to Iraq and he was a huge Eminem fan. And I was going to do that song for him and no other reason," said Bailey.

Her unique covers and online fans have taken Bailey this far, now she's hoping her own songs will take her career the rest of the way.

"I want to write songs that cheer someone up with they're sad or when they have a break up, they go 'I don't know how you did it, but that's exactly what I was going through," said Bailey.

Some of her original music is on her YouTube channel. She's working on a five-song EP with a Grammy Award-winning producer in the Twin Cities.
