Post Office Won't Deliver To Rochester Trailer Park

ROCHESTER, Minn. (WCCO) -- Postal workers consider a mobile home park so unsafe in Rochester, Minn., they will no longer deliver mail there.

Residents got the news Wednesday, which means anyone living at the Parkside Mobile Home will now have to travel to the nearest post office, about a mile away to get their mail. There's about 100 people that live at Parkside.

Resident Barb Henderson said there's a number of problems.

"The sidewalks are cracked, people don't restrain their animals and a lot of people have a lot of junk," she said.

Those are some of the reasons cited in a Postal Service letter to those living at Parkside, saying mail would be stopped.

They also cited broken mailboxes and cars blocking their walk and their biggest concern is dogs, either left tied up outside or left to roam free.

"It saddens me because I like the 'homey' feeling of having your mailman come to your door," Henderson said. "A few bad apples spoil the whole bushel."

The property manager, Anthony Manes, said he's only been on the job a week and he hopes to get moving on a number of projects so the people living at Parkside can start getting their mail by next week.

Manes said he has asked residents to keep their dogs indoors from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

He believes that's the biggest problem and hopes the Postal Service can work with him on the other issues that may take longer to fix.

The mail will be on hold at the Bear Creek Post Office for 30 days.

The postal service says if a solution isn't reached, then it will be returned to sender, unless the people at Parkside want to rent a post office box at the Bear Creek Office.
