Minnesota Beats Alaska-Anchorage 2-1 In WCHA Playoffs

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Erik Haula scored both Minnesota goals as the Golden Gophers beat Alaska-Anchorage 2-1 Friday in the opening game of their Western Collegiate Hockey Association playoff series.

Haula scored twice in the second period for the Gophers (25-12-1), who were eliminated at home by the Seawolves (9-24-2) in two games last season.

Nate Schmidt assisted on both Minnesotagoals.

Kent Patterson made 16 saves, as Minnesotaoutshot Alaska-Anchorage 34-17. Patterson allowed just one goal, that by Brad Gorham with just two seconds left in the second period.

Chris Kamal made 14 of his 32 saves in the second period for the Seawolves.

Minnesota can clinch a berth in the WCHA Final Five with a win on Saturday.
