BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. (WCCO) – A Brooklyn Center Police officer was hospitalized Friday night after being hit by a car, authorities said.

The accident happened at the intersection of 53rd and Colfax Avenues in Brooklyn Center just before 8 p.m. Authorities said the officer had initially been assisting at a gas leak in the area when he saw that a fight was breaking out across the street.

The officer went over to that incident, and that’s when he was hit by the vehicle. He was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was released from the hospital Saturday morning.

What led up to the accident is still under investigation at this time.
