Governor's Stadium Proposal To Be Introduced

ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- The Governor's Vikings stadium proposal could be brought up at the State Capitol as early as Monday.

The deal was expected to be introduced at the legislature last Monday but was delayed.

It calls for electronic pull tabs to fund the state's share, but now that's coming under fire from charities who also benefit from the sales.

Those opposed to Dayton's plan say it overestimates how much revenue the gambling would bring in, and is a bad deal for nonprofits.

Gov. Mark Dayton said he's willing to work with charities to find a solution, but also admits the odds of getting the stadium deal done this session aren't great.

"I'd say it's 50/50," he said Sunday. "It's there to be gained and it's there to be lost. I would say a lot of opponents are a lot more outspoken and much more engaged at the legislature right now than the people who would be advocates for it so I hope any of your listeners who want to see the Vikings stay around for a while will call their legislators and urge them to support this."

The Vikings have repeatedly refused to say if they'll move, if they don't get a deal this session.

Dayton also has a press conference scheduled for later Monday morning.

He plans to discuss a budget proposal at 10 a.m.
