Man Accused Of Breaking Into, Damaging Mpls School

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 23-year-old Prior Lake man is accused of trying to break into a northeast Minneapolis elementary school early Sunday morning, according to charges filed in Hennepin County Court on Tuesday.

Travis Wayne Dedomines was charged with one felony count of second-degree burglary in connection with the incident.

According to a complaint, police were called to a report of a burglar alarm at Sheridan Public School at 4:10 a.m. Sunday. The caller told police that the basement and first floor motion sensors had been tripped.

When authorities arrived, they saw damage that had been done to the outside of the school and could hear a commotion and crashing noise coming from inside the school. Officers then heard and saw a glass window get kicked and shattered out on the west side of the building.

Officers walked over to the window and saw a man later identified as Dedomines looking out the window, according to the complaint. He tried to flee and exited the school from the east side of the building, where police arrested him after a short pursuit.

When police searched inside the school, the found that several items had been broken and the building was heavily damaged, the complaint states.

Dedomines told police he didn't remember the incident. He said he had been drinking and couldn't remember what happened. He told police, the complaint states, that he remembered breaking glass, having a flashlight on him and running away from police.

He also admitted to kicking and damaging a glass door.

If convicted, Dedomines faces up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
