Police Seek Attempted Robbery Suspect Who Hit Child

ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- St. Paul Police say an armed man struck a child while attempting to rob a convenience store on the city's east side last week.

At around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, police were called to the Corner Express Foods convenience store on the 1600 block of East Seventh Street. A man apparently approached the cashier's counter where two children were standing as their mother shopped.

Within inches of the children, the man pulled a gun and pointed it at the store employee – striking one of the children in the head with his elbow in the process.

The suspect demanded money, threatened the store employee, crawled over the counter, grabbed the employee and tried to reach for the money in the cash register. However, the man failed in his robbery attempt and fled.

Now, police need help identifying the suspect. Police described him as a light-skinned man, 5-feet-10 to 6-feet-tall with a medium build. On Wednesday, he had a black mustache and wore a black winter hat, black hooded sweatshirt, black jeans and blacks shoes.

The child who was hit did not need medical attention.

Anyone with information is asked to call the St. Paul Police at 651-266-5650.
