Vikings Sign John Carlson To Multi-Year Deal

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (WCCO) – The Minnesota Vikings made their first move in NFL free agency Wednesday, signing tight end John Carlson to a multi-year contract.

The deal is reportedly five years and worth about $25 million, although it's not certain how much of that is guaranteed. The deal hits close to home as Carlson is from Litchfield and was a four-year football and basketball star for the Dragons.

Carlson went on to play tight end at the University of Notre Dame before going onto the NFL and playing with the Seattle Seahawks. He had 31 catches for 318 yards and one touchdown last season. In his rookie year, Carlson had 55 catches for 627 yards and five touchdowns.

It could also be a big week in the Carlson household as Litchfield, coached by his father, plays Long Prairie-Grey Eagle in the Section 6AA title game Friday night at St. Cloud State. In his high school days, John Carlson played in two state championship basketball teams.
