Cab Driver Shot Dead In North Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Police in north Minneapolis say they have strong leads, but as of yet no one has been arrested in the killing of a cab driver.

Officers said he was shot just after 10 p.m. around the 400 block of 23rd Ave in North Minneapolis.

Officers found a male cab driver critically injured. The victim was taken to North Memorial Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

The car involved was a Yellow Cab, which is part of Taxi Services, Inc., which is the largest cab company in the Twin Cities with more than 400 cars. They released a statement early Thursday afternoon:

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our driver's last night and are currently working with investigators. We are deferring to the Minneapolis Police Department regarding any further information including releasing the driver's name so as not to affect the investigation and to ensure proper notifications can be made."

Police say they have limited information about the suspect, but if you have any leads, police would like you to give them a call.

They will be increasing patrols in the area over what they described as a slight uptick in violent crime.
