MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Allina Starr led DeLaSalle with 24 points and Tyseanna Johnson added 16 as the Islanders beat Richfield 65-45 on Saturday to win their second straight Class 3A state title.

Bryann Guyton scored 15 points to lead the Spartans, who were making their first-ever state tournament appearance. But the Islanders (28-3) held Jessica January, Richfield’s leading scorer who had 44 points in the Spartans’ first two tournament games, to 12 points on 3-for-16 shooting.

The Spartans (27-5) led 12-10 midway through the first half before DeLaSalle went on a 20-6 run. Richfield never recovered.

Richfield made one final push, pulling to 43-37 on Tasia Harris’ jumper with 10:17 to play. But the Islanders outscored the Spartans 16-3 over the next seven minutes to seal the outcome.

Both teams did Great! But the Islander’s pulled it off yet again! Even with the crowd being mostly red and white. The DeLaSalle students in the crowd never gave up! Continued to support the girls until the very end! That says SO much about the commitment and loyalty from the most awesome school in Minneapolis! My daughter was a Cheerleader at this Great game, and I can honestly say “I am so proud to be an Islander Parent!”

    1A – Maranatha
    2A – Providence Academy
    3A – DeLasalle

Boys Hockey AA – Hill Murray, A – St. Thomas.

So happy for the parents of these kids that bought them a championship. When is the MSHSL going to wake up and put all of these private schools in their own bracket. Nobody cares about them and they are taking away from all of the traditional high schools where the kids play together their entire life with goal of making it to State Tournament.
