MOA Breaks Record For Most Amassed Ninja Turtles

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (WCCO) -- They've come a long way from the toxic ooze-infested sewers. Now, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have helped the Mall of America secure a new world record.

To celebrate the grand opening of its new ride -- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shell Shock Mall -- the Mall of America and Nickelodeon Universe attempted to break the standing Guinness World Record for the world's largest gathering of Ninja Turtles on Saturday morning.

An adjudicator with Guinness World Records confirmed the crowd of amassed turtles numbered 836. The previous record was 786.

Organizers provided everyone in attendance with a free face mask and a T-shirt, and they were allowed to ride the new attraction for free.

Shell Shock swings its riders 70 feet into the air inside 12 single-seat pods shaped like flying turtles. Each rider's fins will either propel their pod around madly, or allow them a more sedate glide.

The ride anticipates the debut of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated reboot, which is to premiere on Nickelodeon this year.
