Man Arrested For Murder Of Cab Driver In North Mpls

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Minneapolis Police have made an arrest in the murder of a cab driver back on March 14.

Authorities said 20-year-old Samual Johosephat Taylor turned himself into police at about 9 p.m. Tuesday in connection with the incident.

William Harper was shot to death just after 10 p.m. on March 14 near the intersection of 23rd Avenue North and 4th Street North in Minneapolis.

The car involved was a Yellow Cab, which is part of Taxi Services, Inc., which is the largest cab company in the Twin Cities with more than 400 cars.

Taylor is currently being held in the Hennepin County Jail on probable cause murder.

Minneapolis Police Sergeant Stephen McCarty said Taylor was talked into surrendering.

"There was some persuasion perhaps from his family members (and) members of the community," McCarty said. "We're just grateful that he turned himself in.  It helps bring resolution to the victim's family."

McCarty said investigators are looking at the possibility of a couple of different motives for the killing, including robbery.

Evidence at the scene of the killing, and witness accounts lead investigators to believe that Taylor is the person responsible for William Harper's death, according to McCarty.  He would not say what that evidence is.

The case has been handed over to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office for criminal charges. The incident remains under investigation.
