Lines Forming For 'Hunger Games' 12 A.M. Showing

EDINA (WCCO) -- School is out and lines are beginning to form for the highly-anticipated "Hunger Games" movie.

At 4 p.m. Thursday, the AMC Theatre at the Southdale Center Mall had sold 1,800 tickets for the midnight showing. The line to get into the theatre was small. At the front of the line, were three friends killing time with video games and snacks.

"We got the midnight tickets like a month ago," said Zach Weiland. "We decided we should go early."

Weiland, Evan Boncher and Tim Pedersen all go to Richfield High School and are part of the band. They left class and came straight to Southdale to be the first in line. All three have class on Friday at 6 o'clock in the morning and a performance that evening.

"I've got my homework with me," said Boncher.

Boncher came with his friends because he wanted to be part of the experience and loves the mega-popular trilogy.

"The books draw you in really quickly," said Boncher. "The action and all the suspense brings you in and holds you for the whole series."

The story, written by Suzanne Collin, is deep for young audiences. It's set in a post-apocalyptic world, but things like reality TV and fighting within the government are resonating with teenagers.

Southdale has four theatres "sold out," but managers say they have four others theatres they can fill.

At the Mall of America in Bloomington, 25 percent of ticket shad been sold at 1 p.m.. At the front of the line, there were two sisters Laura and Brandy Ingberg.

"It's fun to wait in line," said Brandy. "That's one of the perks of a midnight show."
