ST. PAUL (WCCO) — A man who led police on a chase in the east metro died after either jumping or falling from the Highway 52 bridge in St. Paul.

The chase began in Maplewood shortly after midnight and ended in a crash on the bridge just south of downtown.

St. Paul Police identified the man Thursday afternoon as 38-year-old Keith Allen Johnson of Apple Valley.

Johnson was found under the bridge a short time later. He died a short time later.

Police still don’t know if he was ejected from the car or if he jumped from the bridge.

Authorities also didn’t say why Johnson took off when police first tried to stop him.

At least we don’t have to pay for a trial and housing

@Apostrophe…..really???….I think it’s funny when people have to resort to ripping others for errors in spelling (etc)…is your life really that simple minded???

      1. Deep Thinker says:

@Apostrophe…..seriously you are that petty that you add another post under another name “just saying” you really are a small, small person

  4. roger says:

Well… some of us just happened to be wearing blue and heard the chase start. He was no longer being pursued, the chase was called off and only after did this person loose control, crash and attempted to fly.

    1. Semper Fi says:

Well good for you, my point is the man could have been mentally ill, and like I said all thesethese know it alls on here assume he was some hardened criminal before they even know the facts, and if you do why don’t you enlighten them.

    2. lacking details says:

Those details would have been nice to have in the news report.
If you were no longer chasing him how do you know he lost control and didn’t crash on purpose? Maybe he was suicidal.

  5. Doink says:

Fleeing from officers IS a crime, therefore he WAS a criminal.

  6. Olaf says:

The headline says he jumped from the bridge. The story says the police don’t know if he was ejected or if he jumped. Was the reporter there and knows he jumped?

  7. Realist says:

So the headline says he jumped… “Man Jumps From Hwy. 52 Bridge After Chase, Crash”

The story says… “Police still don’t know if the man was ejected or if he jumped.”

Way to go WCCO. Top notch, sensationalist journalism.

Semper, the fact is, if a cop was hurt a lot of people would be making comments like “serves him right, they are pigs anyway” People are sick on this board.

  13. Real Deal says:

Just like your assuming he was mentally I’ll. Hilarious….But your the first person to crucify a cop from a article without knowing all the facts making you the biggest hypocrite…..Good job warriors.

I was very close friends with Keith. The man who you all seem to be passing judgement on ! None of you knew who he was and who all made you God or a Judge or even a jury for what had happened! He was someones son brother uncle and a very loyal friend. So unless anyone has anything nice to say shut your mouth! Thank you!

    1. b says:

    2. scott alan says:

His personal problems are not relevant here. This clown was endangering the lives of other people and better he is dead than me. Cars are far more dangerous than anything you encounter in your life besides old age.
