ST. PAUL (WCCO) – A man who led police on a chase in the east metro died after either jumping or falling from the Highway 52 bridge in St. Paul.

The chase began in Maplewood shortly after midnight and ended in a crash on the bridge just south of downtown.

St. Paul Police identified the man Thursday afternoon as 38-year-old Keith Allen Johnson of Apple Valley.

Johnson was found under the bridge a short time later. He died a short time later.

Police still don’t know if he was ejected from the car or if he jumped from the bridge.

Authorities also didn’t say why Johnson took off when police first tried to stop him.
